Executing the last will and testament of her husband, in 2016, Jadwiga Szczygielska submitted a collection of memorabilia belonging to Wacław Szczygielski to the Szczecin Branch of the IPN.
Wacław Szczygielski alias “Mars” was born on 21 January 1924 in Grodno. In September 1939, as a 15-year-old scout, he participated in the defence of Grodno against the aggression of the Red Army. In 1942, he joined the Union of Armed Struggle (ZWZ), and then was sent to serve in the Grodno unit of the Kedyw. Since March 1944, he fought under Maj. “Chmura’s” command in the Augustów Forest.
The materials provided include medals and decorations. Photos from his period of combat in the ranks of the Home Army (Armia Krajowa) and a number of army veteran documents.
